Just like Christian Pulisic and Gio Reyna! USMNT starlet Kevin Paredes says following in footsteps of star duo is 'a dream come true' after being named U.S. Soccer Young Player of the year for 2023

US Soccer has named Wolfsburg's Kevin Paredes as the men's Young Player of the Year for 2023, an award he labelled "a dream come true".

  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    The announcement arrived Thursday morning, with Paredes speaking to regarding the accolade. The youngster said he is excited to walk in the footsteps of some of the greats who have won it like Landon Donovan and Eddie Johnson, as well as current stars Christian Pulisic and Gio Reyna.

    WHAT PAREDES SAID

    The USMNT starlet declared: “It’s a dream come true to get an award like this playing for the country I love so much. So many legends have been given it before.”

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

    Paredes had a breakout 2023 for both club and country, and is now looked at as one of the most promising attackers in the entire pool of players. However, he's yet to nail down a starting role with the Bundesliga side. He has one goal in 13 appearances this season, starting in three of the matches. On the international stage, Paredes made the U20 FIFA World Cup roster while also obtaining his first caps with the senior team.

    Wolfsburg are back in action at the weekend when they take on FC Heidenheim. It's a chance for Paredes to try and earn his fourth start of the campaign, or make an impact off the bench.
